Description
Veterans Cycling
The VetCyle Training Program is designed to train and prepare adaptive and non-adaptive veterans to participate in community races in a supportive, team-based environment.
Participants will have access to monthly group rides at the West End Bike Shop and the Silver Comet Trail (Mableton) as well as other location across Atlanta. As part of the program, the team will participate in local community races:
Equipment & Participation
This program is open to veterans with visible or invisible disabilities as well as non-adaptive veterans.
If you do not own an adaptive bike, one is available for you to borrow for the duration of the program.
We are committed to addressing additional barriers to participation, including bike transportation and storage. If you have questions or need support, please contact franz@catalystsports.org.
Silver Comet to Alabama Ride Schedule
Friday 31 July (45 miles)
- 0900 meeting at the Bike Barn, (storage of personal own vehicles will be here) if you are borrowing a bike get fitted with it
- 0930 go over gear, ride around and test out your bike
- 1000 Depart for Alabama
- 1400 Arrive at Rockmart (lunch)
- 1700 Arrive at Cedartown (hotel)
- 1900 AAR prep for the next day
Saturday 1 Aug (50 miles)
- 0700 First Call
- 0730 Breakfast (hotel)
- 0830 depart for ride to AL
- 1200 Arrive at Piedmont AL
- 1600 arrive back at Cedartown (hotel)
- 1900 AAR prep for the next day
Sunday 2 Aug (45 miles)
- 0700 First Call
- 0730 Breakfast (hotel)
- 0830 depart for ride to Bike Barn
- 1200 Arrive at Dallas GA (lunch)
- 1500 arrive back at Bike Barn (pack up gear)
- 1600 depart for home (mission complete)

Essential Eligibility for VetsCycle Participants
Participants must be able to:

Have veteran status
-
have your own bike
-
ride with some of the slower vets.

need to rotate out driving the SAG vechile
What to Bring
-
Water bottle x 2
-
Snacks or food
-
Sunglasses or safety eyewear (if needed)

Closed-toe shoes

Your own bike (if you don't have one we can provide only adaptive bikes to borrow)

Helmet (if you don't have one we can provide one to borrow)

Personal Hygenie gear (insect repellant, sun block, Meds)

shower shoes, towel,
-
cycling clothes, normal clothes.

eletronics to include charging stuff and battery bank if you are going to be out there for a long time recommend a power strip as well.

A Can Do Attitude and a big bottle of suck it up Juice!
What not to Bring
- Tents (we will be indoors inside some gym or school)
- Cots sleeping bag sleeping pad (we will be in hotels both nights)
Recommendations
- pack light .
- SAG support will provide some snacks and drinks on the route.
- We will meet every night to go over the days ride and prep for the next day's ride and to share our stories.
