Description
Veterans Hiking Program
The Veterans Hiking Program is designed to prepare adaptive and non-adaptive veterans to participate in guided hikes and outdoor community events in a supportive, team-based environment.
Participants will have access to monthly group hikes at parks and trail systems across the Atlanta area. Hikes are designed to accommodate a range of abilities and experience levels while promoting physical activity, confidence, and community connection.
Equipment & Participation
This program is open to veterans with visible or invisible disabilities, as well as non-adaptive veterans.
We are committed to reducing barriers to participation, including transportation, trail access concerns, and equipment needs. If you have questions or need support, please contact franz@catalystsports.org.
Hike Day Schedule
Sunday July 5th

0900 – check in at Bike shops, cross load gear Tents sleep bags ect.

0945 - double check gear weight and supplies
-
1000 - depart for N GA
-
1100 - Arrive along AT
-
1200 - Start Adventure with a light lunch

1300 - step off 4 miles or so (nice and easy)
Monday July 6th

0900 – Step off 7 miles or so
Tuesday July 7th
-
0900 – Step off 10 miles or so
Wed July 8th
-
0900 – Step off 12 miles or so
Thursday July 9th
-
0900 – Step off 12 miles or so
Friday July 10
-
0900 – Get pick up by support
-
1100 - be back at the bike shop un pack bags, tents
-
1200 - Mission Complete head home

Essential Eligibility for Veterans Hiking Participants
Participants must be able to:

Have veteran status, family and friends are welcome to join us but priority will be given to Veteran for gear and other resources.

Wear appropriate footwear and required safety equipment

Understand and follow multi-step instructions independently

Navigate trails independently or with reasonable assistance
-
Walk or otherwise travel over trails appropriate to their experience and ability level

grit chairs will not be an option for this trip. Rough Terrain
-
Prerequisite that you must show me on strava that you can hike at least 6 miles in one day.
What to Bring

Water bottle
-
Snacks or food (enough for 5 days)

Sunglasses or eye protection (if needed)

Closed-toe shoes or appropriate hiking footwear

Camping Gear (we do have stuff to lend out if needed)

A can-do attitude!
