All clinics/workshops will be held Saturday April 25th EXCEPT Sunrise Yoga, Birding, and the Veterans Meet Up. These will be held Sunday April 26th. Please note the times of each clinic! Clinics are covered in your Alabama Potluck registration fee and do NOT cost extra.

The Brave, the Bold, and the Femme: Women and Non-binary Meet Up (9am-12pm)

Climbing meet up for women and non-binary climbers, led by The Belaydies. *Accessibility notes: Be comfortable with navigating trails with stones, roots, and other prominences. Climbing will occur at various walls throughout Cherokee Rock Village. Climbers will need to hike up to 1/4 mile on natural trails with roots/rocks/etc. to reach the climbing areas. Please contact us if you want to request hiking assistance from a volunteer for this clinic.

 

Roots to the Wall: Anchor Building (9am-12pm)

Learn how to build anchors for outdoor climbs, led by Silvia Tenenbaum. This will be a ground school clinic focused on hands on learning. You will NOT be climbing during this clinic.

*Accessibility notes: This clinic is accessible for individuals with mobility impairments and wheelchair users. You will need to traverse a grassy area to get to the anchor station. Volunteers will be available to assist if needed.

 

Adapt to the Wall: Adaptive Climbing Meet Up (9am-3pm)

Open climbing session for adaptive climbers. Adaptive equipment and trained volunteers will be available to assist throughout the day from 9am-3pm. You may climb as little or as long as you want within this time frame!

*Accessibility notes: Most climbing will occur in the Boy Scout Wall area, which requires a short hike from the pavilion. The trail is wide but does include a hill, and obstacles such as roots and rocks. Off road wheelchairs will be available to borrow to get to the climbing wall, and volunteers will be available for assistance getting to/from the crag.

 

“Walking” Up the Wall: Intro to Movement and Technique (9am-12pm)

Intro to movement and technique Pre requisite: open to all abilities but we recommend participants feel comfortable top roping 5.7/5.8 indoors or outdoors. Must know how to top rope belay. There is more to climbing than powering through moves. In this clinic we will cover ways to connect with your other strengths and use different parts of your body to make moves feel less burly and more efficient. You will learn a variety of movement techniques and implement everything we cover on the wall. We will break down sequences on a micro level so you can get the most out of each move. And we will also go over a few exercises that will help you continue to build full strength and prevent injury. If you’re ready to unlock your full body’s potential then this clinic is for you! Radical Imagination and Climbing: Bouldering Clinic (10am-12pm)

Join us as we explore the transformative power of climbing, both physically and mentally. Through movement and discussion, discover how bouldering can empower us individually and collectively, fostering stronger connections with ourselves, the environment, and our community. Led by Mariana Mendoza

*Accessibility Information: Be comfortable with navigating trails with stones, roots, and other prominences. Participants should be comfortable bouldering and with falling onto a crash pad from 5ft or higher.

 

Point, Shoot, & Document your Experience: Photography Clinic (10am-12pm)

Bath for Your Soul: Sound Bath in Nature (1:30pm-2:30pm)

Relaxing sound bath led by Juliana Capobianco

*Accessibility Information: This session takes place on the wooden sunrise overlook, and is accessible via the paved road for participants using mobility devices, including wheelchairs.

 

Adapt to a New World: How to Support Adaptive Climbers (1:30pm-3:30pm)

Learn about systems and techniques to support adaptive climbers with physical disabilities and visual impairments. This session is open to participants with and without disabilities; however the focus is on learning how to support other climbers in your community. This is NOT a climbing clinic. Led by Chadd Kittle with Catalyst Sports. *Accessibility Information: Be comfortable with navigating trails with stones, roots, and other prominences. Volunteers will be available for participants needing mobility assistance navigating to/from the climbing area and off-road wheelchairs will be available to borrow.

 

Wave Hello to Your Wellness (1:30-3:00pm)

Come focus on healing and getting higher level with Waves Wellness. Led by Jenna Parker *Accessibility Information: This clinic is accessible for individuals with mobility impairments and wheelchair users. This session takes place in the grassy area behind pavilion. It is a short trail less than 30 feet long from the pavilion. Volunteers will be available to assist if needed.

 

Be Rooted in Movement: Modern Dance (2:30-3:30pm)

A modern dance class about history of the African Diaspora and taking up space as an individual. Led by Erin Burch

*Accessibility Information: This clinic will take place in the campground/pavilion area and will be accessible for participants using mobility devices, including wheelchairs.

 

From the Roots to the Leaves: Foraging Clinic (3:30-4:30pm)

Come forage with LNT principles in mind. Find out how different plants can be used in different ways. Led by Nadia Blackmon

Mend Your Own Business: How to Repair Clothes/Gear (3:00-4:30pm)

Learn from an expert on how revitalize old climbing gear and see what it is like to run a woman ran small business. Led by Mariah McCormick

*Accessibility Information: This clinic will take place in the campground/pavilion area and will be accessible for participants using mobility devices, including wheelchairs. Participants should be comfortable with using a needle.

 

The Crux in Your Head: Mental Training (3:30-5pm)

Working on your head game and mentality towards climbing. Led by Corey Ramos.

*Accessibility Information: Ground session focused on mental training.

 

Sunrise Yoga over the Sun Wall (7am-8am SUNDAY)

Get centered before your day begins with some morning Yoga. Led by Gabi Barros *Accessibility Information: This session takes place on the wooden sunrise overlook, and is accessible via the paved road for participants using mobility devices, including wheelchairs

 

Look to the Trees: Birding Clinic (9-10:30am SUNDAY)

Learn about birding, no experience required! Led by Maggie Smith and Julie Calvert. Supported by Birdability.

*Accessibility Information: This clinic will take place around the campsite and overlook areas, and will be accessible for participants with mobility impairments and who use mobility devices. You may be navigating pavement, grass, and gravel surfaces; volunteers will be available for mobility assistance if needed.

 

Veterans Climbing Meet Up (10am-12pm SUNDAY)

An informal meet up for veterans and military service members to climb together. Led by Franz Haller of Catalyst Sports' VetsClimb Program.
